Undeliverable
A downloadable game for Windows
October 17, 1987. I was drunk, and I put the car in the ditch on Hollow Lane with my daughter in the back seat. Annie. She was seven.
The ambulance took Annie. The police took me. Then the police car went off the road at the creek bridge, and that is the last thing I remember.
They never found me in the wreck. Everybody figured I'd run. Everybody but her.
What it is
Undeliverable is a first-person stealth horror game set in the Department of Undeliverable Affairs, the place where everything that never got where it was going ends up. That includes you. You wake up in a shipping crate in a warehouse full of dead letters, and the front desk is seven floors up.
Something works every floor between here and there.
- He has a cart, and one wheel squeaks. If you can hear it, you know where he is. If it stops, he has heard something.
- You cannot fight him. Crouch, keep your light off him, stay out of his way, and get into an empty crate if you have to. Running is loud.
- Every floor has its own rule. One is strung with bells, and up there he listens. One is a ward where he only moves when you are not looking at him. One is a bright hall with nothing but pews to get behind. One has no light on it but his lamp, and you have to follow it.
- He does not hurt you. He puts you back. Every time he catches you, three years go by, and there is another letter from Annie in your slot. She gets older. Read them.
What is in it
- Seven floors, and a short opening that shows how you got here.
- Five endings, decided by what you do at the front desk and by how many years it took you to get there. The game keeps count. Find all five and there is one more.
- A story told in letters, forms and the notes that come down the brass tube.
- About an hour for a first run. It saves as you go.
Before you play
There are jump scares, a lot of darkness, some loud noises, and red and blue police lights in the opening.
The story is about a man who drove drunk with his daughter in the car, and who was gone for most of her life. The crash is not shown.
Wear headphones if you can. You find him by ear.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse.
W A S D to move, mouse to look, Shift to run, C or Ctrl to crouch, E to use, hide and read (hold it for winches, stamps and the endings), F or right mouse for the flashlight, Esc to pause.
Mouse sensitivity, volume, brightness and head bob are on the pause screen.
Running it
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Download the zip, unzip it anywhere, and run Undeliverable.exe.
The first time, Windows may say it "protected your PC". That is because the game is not signed. Click More info, then Run anyway.
This is the building from Somewhere, Eventually, seen from the wrong side of the counter. You do not need to have played that to play this.
